In the spirit of Water a Flower Day this coming Tuesday May 29, we decided to put together a list of our top 10 favorite bouquets in honor of the national holiday. Besides, the saying goes that flowers make people happy and I have to admit, it's hard to be upset while staring at a stunning bouquet of blooms. I personally always have a little bouquet of tulips or carnations in my apartment to add a breath of fresh air into the space. According to science, flowers and plants are great for reducing stress, improving cognitive performance, and have also been linked to heightened creativity.

Floral arrangements date back to 2500 BCE when the Ancient Egyptians started putting fresh cut flowers in elaborate vases to use them as table decorations. They'd create highly stylized arrangements for burials and processions, selecting flowers according to symbolic meaning and religious significance.

The Ancient Greeks and Romans on the other hand did not often use vases and instead focused on garlands and wreaths. They too had preferred blooms like the Egyptians which were heavily swayed by religious beliefs. Garland wreaths were a symbol of power, honor, and dedication to the Greeks and were awards in honor of great athletes, poets, and heroes. (Do I sense the birth of the first flower crown?)

Although we don't come close to the beautiful arrangements of the Ancient Egyptians and Romans, we still appreciate their footprint in bringing flowers into the spotlight for all to enjoy.
