A Message From Jo
Dear Henkaanistas,
I hope that 2019 is treating you well! The new year always brings with it a fresh perspective and engaging opportunities. With that in mind, it’s been awhile since you’ve heard from me, so I wanted to give you a little update on what’s happening in my life as well as give you some insight into Henkaa’s direction.
When I was first inspired to bring Henkaa into being, it was through a need to solve a problem - finding clothing that fit properly, that didn’t break the bank and would work for many occasions and life stages. Clothing that made people of all shapes and sizes look and feel good - on their own terms. And what I’m proud to say is that Henkaa has achieved that with not only our Made in Canada convertible dresses, but in our diverse, body-positive marketing efforts and our supportive, beautiful Henkaanista community!
And as Henkaa has evolved, I’ve also evolved in my identity as a small business owner, a mentor, a friend, a family member, a wife, a mother and a person in this vast world.
I’ve drawn inspiration both personally and professionally from many people, places, experiences and events that I've had the incredible opportunity to encounter on my journey.
With the intention of bringing more presence, more inspired ideas and more chances to enjoy life and share in life with family and friends, I’ve made a decision to take a sabbatical.
Everything changes and the time has come for a change.
After a decade guiding Henkaa, going forward, we will see the business continue to flourish under new leadership with Sonia Dong, our beloved Managing Director!
Sonia has worked collaboratively by my side and with our small and mighty team for over six years. She aligns deeply with our mission and vision, understands Henkaa’s roots and foundation, and will lead the company into the next stage of growth and evolution.
Henkaa has really matured, and like a proud parent, I am now able to continue loving my "grown up baby", being there when she needs me, listening and advising on a periodic basis and sharing in her success.
If you’ve been following us recently, you’ll know that Henkaa’s been commended for its flexible and plus-friendly clothing, worked with some fantastic vendors on beautiful collaborations, partnered with and featured some fabulous inspiring women (see our blog!) and that we continue to build a community of Henkaanistas who choose us because they connect with what we stand for. I’m excited for what’s to come, and hope you are too.
